7 ways to make your loved one smile this valentine's day

This Sunday (Feb 14th) is Valentine's day! Most of you reading this probably aleady have plans; or you've decided not to make plans and just stay in. Below I've collected some tips to make your loved one smile on Sunday. I wanted to add one thing to this collection of tips, Advice for all of us, including me
Love is the capacity to take care, to protect, to nourish. If you are not capable of generating that kind of energy toward yourself- if you are not capable of taking care of yourself, of nourishing yourself, of protecting yourself- it is very difficult to take care of another person. In the Buddhist teaching, it's clear that to love oneself is the foundation of the love of other people. Love is a practice. Love is truly a practice.
From Thich Nhat Hanh, in the Shambala Sun March 2006.

This is important to keep in mind, for those of us that have a special someone this valentines day and for those who don't. Love is a practice which means we must actively engage and practice it every moment. Here are some ways we could practice love this Sunday, or any other day of the year!

Start the day off right

Make a homemade breakfast for your loved one or close family and friends in your life. Everyone can appreciate waking up to something homemade. Try doing breakfast in bed for your significant other or hosting a friends and family brunch at your house.

Show your appreciation

Don’t forget to tell your loved one how much you appreciate them. Show them how much they mean to you by making a creative list of all the reasons you are happy they are in your life.

Plan the day

Make a plan for the day! Decide to do an activity that you both enjoy whether it is getting outside, going to a museum or going out to the movies. Splurge a little for the day.

Don’t sweat the small stuff

Take this day to put everyday stressors on the backburner. Life gets busy, and a lot of times we take it out on the people we care about the most. Try to forget about trivial problems and enjoy your loved one’s company! The small things you may fight about don’t matter, especially today.

Take the pressure off

Instead of doing Valentine’s Day gifts this year, make a decision with your significant other to put the money toward something else for the both of you. Instead of feeling the pressure to go buy a gift, plan a weekend getaway together or even a day trip to enjoy each other’s company.

Take care of yourself

Your loved ones care deeply about you, so make sure you are taking care of yourself as well. Keep your health in check and remember that it is ok to be selfish sometimes. The people in your life want to see you happy as much as you want to make them happy. See above quote!
If you have health problems, especially pain, don't forget that I am here for you to offer a free health evaluation. See if acupuncture is what you need to take care of yourself this year!

Every day can be Valentine’s Day

Remember that any day is the perfect opportunity to show how much you care and love the people in your life. Strive to make your loved ones smile today and every other day as well. The small gestures can go a long way.

Why did it have to be snakes

Photo Credit: 1 Snakes. Why’d it have to be snakes? Probably everyone who has gone on a nature hike or a stroll through the woods has thought about snakes. What would you do if you were bitten by a snake? Do you have one of those snake bite kits available in the drug store? I'll tell you why I don't further on in this post! Poisonous Snakes? Trick question: how many poisonous snakes are there in North America? The first thing you need to know is: There is a difference between poisonous and venomous . Poison is secreted and primarily defensive. In the case of animals it is usually not produced by the creature itself, but sequestered from the environment. Venom, on the other hand, is intended to be injected by fangs, stingers, or other structures. It is primarily offensive, being used to disable prey before consuming. Further most venoms are harmless if ingested, which means that most rattlesnakes can be eaten safely. However, there are exceptions so don't go out

Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria And Acupuncture Also this week, wired published an article titled: The Post-Antibiotic Era Is Here. Now What? detailing the rise of antibiotic resistance bacteria declaring: Folks are dying simply because there is no antibiotic available to treat their infection, infections that not too long ago were easily treatable. As the article points out, millions of lives have been saved by the use of antibiotics and the development of new and different classes of antibiotics. Western medicine has made great advances since the development of penicilin.

Merry meet, my friends.  We are awake in the night! We turn the Wheel to bring the light! We call the sun from the womb of night! Once I knew an ancient serpent. He delighted to bask in the Sunshine which penetrated through a tiny hole in the roof of the cave. He was old, and very wise. He said "Upon me is concentrated the Light of the whole Universe" But a little brown beetle, who had long lived in the cave with him, looked up, and spreading his wings he passed out through the hole in the roof -- into the Infinite Beyond. Thus, forsaking Wisdom, would I come to Thee, Beloved Lady of the Starry Heavens. The days only get longer from here! Merry meet; Merry part; and Merry meet again!
